The Envision and Elaborate Phases of The Logical ApproachSM are conducted in tandem to realize Informed Design by defining a portal-based business solution, articulating the portal’s future requirements, and completing the Portal Design specifications.
In this phase, LDS leverages our Informed Design philosophy to define a portal-based business solution and articulate the characteristics of the future portal foundation. During this phase, we establish specific business and user requirements, analyze them as a whole, and match them against enabling technologies and people-change methods. Armed with this information, we work with our clients to define all the factors — people, processes and scenarios — needed to inform (and, if necessary, innovate) the solution design.
The Envision Phase is designed to draw a more explicit line-of-sight from the Assess Phase to the Elaborate Phase by establishing the Program and Process Analysis (discovery meetings with the extended client team), Scope Clarification (review and buy-in from core team), and Planning (for remainder of phase activities).
Deliverables resulting from work during the Envision Phase typically include:

The Elaborate Phase focuses on converging on a coordinated experience design across the portal and other change-impacting channels. It produces complete design specifications that can be used by platform architects and developers to implement both a scalable foundation and a full release of the portal. As work is completed during the Envision Phase, LDS shifts the focus from requirements complexities to details, including the portal functional specifications, remediating the associated change management challenges, and rationalizing the various potential technical approaches to the portal solution. The result of the Elaborate Phase is a fully-informed solution design that is ready to implement.
Deliverables resulting from work during the Elaborate Phase typically include:
