LDS CEO Mimi Brooks to present at the National Emergency Management Executive Academy

On June 20th, Logical Design Solutions’ CEO Mimi Brooks will present to the Federal Emergency Management Agency’s (FEMA) Emergency Management Institute (EMI) Executive Academy. The audience will be critical emergency personnel executives who prepare for, protect against, respond to, recover from, and mitigate the potential effects of all types of natural and man-made disasters. Recognizing that technology shapes our behaviors and that our behaviors shape technology, Mimi will describe the impacts of digital design to these executives as they seek to create better prepared and more resilient communities. Mimi will share the digitally-driven challenges and opportunities for 2018, and provide a dynamic look at the current and anticipated digital trends impacting our future such as Artificial Intelligence, Blockchain, Employee Experience Mapping and more.

About the Emergency Management Institute

The EMI supports the Department of Homeland Security and FEMA’s goals by improving the competencies of the U.S. officials in Emergency Management at all levels of government to prepare for, protect against, respond to, recover from, and mitigate the potential effects of all types of disasters and emergencies on the American people.

  • EMI is the emergency management community’s flagship training institution, and provides training to Federal, State, local, tribal, volunteer, public, and private sector officials to strengthen emergency management core competencies for professional, career-long training.
  • EMI directly supports the implementation of the National Incident Management System (NIMS), the National Response Framework (NRF), the National Disaster Recovery Framework (NDRF), and the National Preparedness Goal (NPG) by conveying necessary knowledge and skills to improve the nation’s capability.
  • EMI trains more than 2 million students annually. Training delivery systems include residential onsite training; offsite delivery in partnership with emergency management training systems, colleges, universities; and technology-based mediums to conduct individual training courses for emergency management personnel across the Nation.

About the Executive Academy at the National Emergency Training Center (NETC) Emergency Management Institute (EMI)

The Executive Academy has three overarching program goals:

  1. Enhance the knowledge base of the EM Executive to achieve a well-rounded understanding and ability to apply the EM Executive Leadership Core Competencies.
  2. Extract a meaningful contribution from the EM Executive to build an EM body of knowledge that results in improvements in policy & practice throughout the EM discipline.
  3. Build and sustain a network of Executive Emergency Managers to ensure continual improvement of the discipline.

The Executive Academy offers the rare opportunity for emergency management executives (state, local, tribal, territorial, and national level positions; non-governmental organizations (NGOs), academic institutions, and private sector entities to interact with more experienced professionals. The goal of the Academy is to include a broad range of the larger emergency management community in each cohort to enhance the quality and nature of discussion. As such, these senior executives serve in a multitude of positions to include: allied disciplines in the public sector, such as public utilities, K-12 education, higher education, public transportation, military, and top public and private sector directors and administrators.
